2023: Reimagining Public Safety Element
On November 13, 2023, the Council voted 3–2 not to include the Reimagining Public Safety Element in General Plan 2045. Albert Vera, Goran Eriksson and Dan O’Brien voted to exclude it. Yasmine-Imani McMorrin and Freddy Puza voted against exclusion.

April 2026: broader Public Safety Subcommittee
The Council dissolved the Standing Police Subcommittee and created a broader Standing City Council Public Safety Subcommittee. The City’s summary says the new body would address topics beyond police policy, including the Mobile Crisis Team, lighting, red-light-camera reform, ambassador programs and other community-safety strategies.
September 2026: 911 dispatch feasibility reaches the subcommittee
On September 1, 2026, File 27-248 was before the Standing Public Safety Subcommittee: “Update and Discussion of Feasibility to Dispatch 911 Calls to the Mobile Crisis Team.” The posted minutes remain draft, so no final recommendation is inferred here.
The City’s current Mobile Crisis Team page describes MCT as a non-law-enforcement, non-emergency, voluntary service with current hours Monday through Friday, 10 AM–6 PM.
